Department of Philosophy
Early Career Research Opportunities
The Philosophy Department at Macquarie provides an excellent environmnent in which to undertake postdoctoral research. Four full-time post-doctoral researchers - Paul Formosa, Heikki Ikaheimo, Jane Johnson and Nicole Vincent - are currently employed in the Department, working in a range of philosophical areas including aesthetics, political philosophy, theories of personhood and recognition, history of philosophy, metaphysics, philosophy of law and neurolaw.
Opportunities for funding of postdoctoral research are available from two main sources: the Macquarie University Research Fellowship Scheme (MQRF) and the Australian Research Council Discovery Early Career Researcher Award. The Department has an outstanding record of success in attracting funding from both these sources - you can find a list of past holders of postdocs here. We welcome new applications.
Expressions of interest for the coming round of the Macquarie University Research Fellowship Scheme (MQRF) should be submitted to an appropriate member of the Philosophy Department (someone suited to sponsor your project) by May 31st 2011. Note that this deadline for consideration by the Department is in advance of the June 15th closing date indicated on the scheme website. Applicants must have been awarded their PhD on or after 1 March 2006, or submit their thesis by 31 August 2011.
