Collective Memory Meeting
Sydney, Friday July 14th, 2006

A small interdisciplinary workshop on collective memory, shared memory, and social ontology will be held in Sydney
on Friday July 14th, starting 10.30am. We will examine both social aspects of individual memory, and the difficult
notions of shared memory and collective memory. We want to discuss the difficult conceptual issues involved in working
out the best naturalistic ways to understand these terms, and the best methods and case studies from across the disciplines.

Here is the final programme for the day!

The workshop is two days before the start of ICOM-4, the 4th International Conference on Memory, at UNSW.
It will be held in the Coogee Surf Lifesaving Club, situated on the southern end of Coogee Beach, Sydney. Overlooking
the beach and ocean, we will gather from 9.30am for morning coffee, with the meeting to get underway at 10.30am.
Over the course of the day we will be served morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea. We will finish at approximately
5.30pm and head to the Aquarium Bar in the Palace Hotel (next door to our accommodation venue, the Coogee Sands
Hotel) for a few drinks, before a nice dinner (venue to be announced).
Our accommodation venue for the meeting in is the Coogee Sands Hotel and Apartments (for a fact sheet click here).
To get over there on public transport, use the 370 bus.

We're bringing together researchers from distinct fields within psychology, from philosophy, and from literature, along
with postdocs and graduate students, for a day's discussion. More details on the workshop structure to follow - watch
this space. Meanwhile here is some background recommended reading and burning questions
