Mianna joined the Department of Philosophy at Macquarie in 2005 as Associate Lecturer in Ethics/Applied Ethics. Prior to her arrival she was a Research Fellow at the Centre for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics, University of Melbourne, and a Lecturer at La Trobe University. Mianna holds a PhD from Monash University, and since graduating has taught subjects in normative and meta-ethics, applied and professional ethics, and social philosophy at a number of universities in Australia and New Zealand.

Current research
Mianna's current research interests are in the ethical and social issues raised by recent biotechnological developments, with a particular focus on reproductive biotechnologies and questions pertaining to parental obligations/liberties and children's autonomy and rights. She is also interested in moral character and normative issues in narrative selfhood.
She is an international co-applicant on a broad, interdisciplinary, collaborative project in the humanities and social sciences, called “What Sorts of People Should There Be?” The project explores historical, social and ethical issues in biotechnology, enhancement and eugenics.
