John Sutton

BA Oxf, PhD Syd.

John has had fellowships at the University of Sydney, UCLA, and Edinburgh University. He taught at Macquarie from 1992 to 1994, and again since 1998.

Selected publications

John is the author of Philosophy and Memory Traces: Descartes to Connectionism (Cambridge, 1998), and he co-edited Descartes' Natural Philosophy (Routledge, 2000). He has published recent articles on memory and embodied skill, and on distributed cognition. more

Current research

John works in philosophy of psychology and in the history of science. His main current research is on the interdisciplinary study of memory; he is also working on dynamical and distributed cognition, and on dreaming.
