Postgraduate Study In Philosophy

Interested in postgraduate study?

Our department's vibrant and supportive research climate has something to offer you. Here at Macquarie we have two research focused degrees - a PhD and a Masters degree - and even a Graduate Diploma for those with little or no previous experience in philosophy. You can find more details on these degrees here and see which is right for you.

What can we offer?

Expert Supervision - Our postgraduates receive regular constructive supervision. Not only are we experts in our chosen areas, but we are trained in research supervision and can help you to develop and complete your research project in a rewarding and timely manner. You can find details of our research interests and specialisms here, but if you're not sure whether you project is suitable, or if you just want to express an interest and talk to someone about your project, then contact us.

Career Support - We are committed to preparing our postgraduates for professional life after they've completed their research. Our postgraduates receive advice and support on finding jobs after their degree. We even provide our postgraduates with professionally useful experience such as paid teaching. If you want to see what some of our more recent postgraduates have gone on to do, look here.

An Intellectual Community - We currently have over twenty postgraduates working in our department. We provide our research postgraduates with office space, a computer, phone, fax and e-mail. More importantly you'll have an opportunity to be part of a lively group of philosophers who'll take an active interest in your research and encourage you to present your work at our weekly postgraduate seminar series.

Financial Support - Apart from the usual sources of postgraduate funding, Macquarie offers competitive scholarships for domestic and international support. Further, during the application process we will liase with you in order to give your funding application the best chance of success. What's more, once you start your research program with us, we can offer access to additional research support funds to allow you to attend conferences, cover the costs of thesis preparation amongst other things. You can find details of Macquarie's scholarships here, and details of the Department's research support scheme here.
