International Joint Degrees (Co-tutelles)

Philosophy postgraduate students are encouraged to take advantage of the international research networks in which Philosophy staff are actively involved.

One way of doing this is through the International Joint Degree (co-tutelle) program. International Joint degrees with co-tutelle (shared supervision) agreements are a great way for students to combine postgraduate studies at Macquarie University with studies at an overseas institution. Under these arrangements, PhD candidates spend some time under supervision at Macquarie University and some time at the partner institution overseas. The degrees awarded recognize the contribution of each university involved.

Participation in the joint degree program is possible for students who are currently enrolled at an overseas university, as well as for students currently enrolled in a PhD program at Macquarie.  This is done by way of ‘co-tutelle agreements’ which are negotiated between the two universities.  

A number of MQRES (Macquarie University Research Excellence Scholarships) are available for co-tutelle students, which cover tuition fees, a living allowance, and certain travel costs. These funds may be supplemented by Departmental funding for essential research activities.
